Congratulations! You will never regret it.
As a nurse, I recommend you lean toward Physical Therapy. You will make more money, have much more autonomy, and really feel that you are making a difference in people's lives. More rewarding in every way.
i have been absent on the forum for the past couple of months.
i have previously been known on here as "mentallyfree31".
i would like to take this opportunity to formally introduce myself.

there were a handful of youths in my congregation.
all were vibrant and zealous members.
some conducted bible studies, some were dedicated and quite enthusiastic in the "truth".. .
Very interesting thread. The internet, cell phones, blackberries, hundreds of TV stations dominate the lives of kids 12 and up. You can't keep them down. Information is available everywhere for young people to know what is going on in the world. They can't keep them in a little JW bubble anymore.
just a quick poll if you will.... i personally hate to cook.
it's not that i'm particularly bad at it, i just don't have a whole lot of patience or motivation to do it.
i suppose it has something to do with my having to live alone?
My sister is a very good cook and she lives alone. She uses her freezer a lot. She freezes her leftovers and pulls them out when she doesn't have the time or energy to cook. She rarely spends the money to go out to eat or get take out.
after reading on the way out's thread about his mom explaining the generation overlap to him it kicked this idea into my head to make this thread .
i thought it would be helpful to see if anybody here has had jw relatives or friends try to explain this " generation overlap " theory to you as a faded or inactive witness and what happened in the conversations.
so please feel free to post your experiences.
You are right, Flipper, in your description of the WT society and how it trickles down.
jerry bergman, ph.d. .
the first american study.
the watchtower influence was often not positive, and there was no evidence that it had in the long run helped those who had emotional problems when they joined.
I agree 100% with Flipper! I have seen it first-hand with BOTH of my parents, my sister, and too many extended family members to name! And I'm mad as hell about it!!!!! And I haven't been to a meeting in 37 years!!!!!
I'm so glad we have this forum where we can vent!
i did keep the boxes they were in, though.
i have a use for them.. i also tossed all my outlines, kms, letters, etc..
I agree with Too Opinionated. My mother died two years ago. She spent the last 2 1/2 months of her life in a nursing home. When I was in Charlotte during her final months I spent part of the time cleaning out her house. One week my hubby and I cleaned out her attic which was full of boxes and boxes of JW literature--books, WT, Awakes, KM, you name it. Probably notes and outlines from talks my father gave, etc. We also put all that crap in big , black garbage bags and put it out on the street. There WERE so many bags! This was stuff from pre -1953 to 1978. I needed to cleanse myself once and for all also. It was so freeing to see those bags being picked up and put in that sanitation truck! The ironic thing is the JWs were out in my mother's neighborhood that very day! Too weird. I found this forum very shortly after that. Maybe even that night.

I like to eat. I like to try new foods. I like to cook. I'm a good enough cook that some of my dishes are better than what you get in some restaurants and a heckuva lot cheaper to cook at home. I hate going out to eat and feeling like I could have cooked it just as well at home.
from what i've noticed 'wordly' teens or very young adults won't follow jw's.most teens/young jw's are born in,so boasting about the theocratic youth is actually boasting about jw children lol..
That statistic seems to hold true for my family. Me, my sister and 13 first cousins were all raised as JWs. Only 5 stayed in the cult. So that's 5 out of 15. Of those cousins children, I know of at least one that is no longer a JW. But I really don't know for sure about the rest.
the post on the athiests on the march thread reminded me of the weekend gone.... as we were in traffic the other day, there was a dude ringing a bell and wearing a sanswich board urging all religions to unite.... anyway, after my daughter had a chuckle at this sight, i remarked how back in the 'old days' the witnesses would walk around the streets like that around the conventions...and proclaim that millions now living will never die... needless to say, i could not help but tell her those millions were now dead.. she was really amused and surprised i can tell you!.
small seeds, small seeds...i plant everything i can think off.
oz.
You're doing a great job, Aussie Oz.
about a year ago i went through a mild meltdown.
it hit me fast i had panic attacks and became angry with all the control in my life.
(being a jw) i had just found out i was being screwed on a real estate development project by another self righteous jw i have known for a long time but this was a big loss (about 4 months pay plus expenses).
Welcome, EA! Great name.
